UK Immigration Points Based Tier System Guide

based system. Please keep in mind that this new system is not implemented for
all the visa types yet and the information on this page may change in next few

Introduction |
|
|
In 2008, United Kingdom will be overhauling its immigration law and implementing
a points based system for non-European Union migrants wishing to come to the UK
for work, study or train. This new system is broken into a five tiers which are
replacing the current 80 or so routes that exist. Each tier have different
conditions and entry requirements for migrants wishing to work on the UK.
The United Kingdom recently released information about
Tier 1 for highly skilled
migrants. This tier is further broken into four sub-categories, including
general highly skilled migrants, entrepreneurs, investors and foreign graduate
stduents of UK educational institutions.
Following is the outline for all five tiers provided by the government about the
new points based tier immigration system. |

Tier 1: |
This tier is for highly skilled migrants, entrepreneurs, investors and graduate
students. This is designed to replace the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme
(HSMP), the Entrepreneur and Investor schemens, and the International Graduate
Scheme (IGS).

Tier 2: |
This tier is for skilled workers who have a job offer. This tier will replace
the current UK Work Permit rules. |
|
|
|
|
Tier 3: |
This tier is for limited numbers of lower skilled workers to fill temporary
shortages in the labour market. |

|
|
Tier 4: |
This tier is for students. Please visit Student

Tier 5: |
This tier is for youth mobility and temporary workers, who come under Working
Holiday agreements with other countries. |
