Introduction |

To keep United Kingdom's economy globally competitiv, skilled migrants are
taking very important part from last many years. These migrants can now
immigrate to the UK without any kind of sponsorship from an employer with the
help of new Tier 1 points based system. These highly skilled migrants include
doctors, engineers, MBAs, scientists and other educated workers. If an
individual can speak English, have earned at least the equivalent of bachelors
degree, and can show relatively good income as earning in home country can apply
under this scheme. |

The United Kingdom has been encouraging skilled migrants to immigrate to the
country through the HSMP since 2002 but new Tier 1 General visa for highly
skilled migrants replaced the HSMP on June 20, 2008. The new system is very
similar to the previous HSMP with one exception of the removal of the MBA
provision which allowed those with MBAs from a list of specific universities to
claim an automatic 75 points. The requirements for the English language are also
more stringent.
