Please keep in mind that to keep permanent residence valid an individual should
not spend longer than two years outside the UK. An individual should consider
the UK as his/her home and should maintain ties to the UK. If an individual
continue to spend short periods of time in the UK over many years it is likely
that there will come a time when he/she will lose indefinite leave to remain in
the UK. Therefore, it is beneficial in most cases to apply for UK citizenship.
An individual can apply for UK citizenship one year after being granted
indefinite leave to remain and as long as he/she meet the residence
requirements.
